How to Create Engaging Webinars for your Members

Erin Reeve | Marketing & Communications | June 26, 2017

Hosting webinars can drive member engagement- if members choose to attend. With that said, there are many reasons that affect whether a member decides to join a webinar or not. In this article, we’ll review the how you can create webinars that members actually attend.

1.Choose a Relevant Topic: In order to create a webinar that members actually want to attend, the first and important thing to consider is the value that it can provide to your members. For example, many associations engage members with webinars that provide training on a specific topic that may be of interest to them. To sweeten the deal, some associations even offer CEUs to all members that attend.

2.Make it “The Right Time”: It’s important to try to schedule your webinar at a convenient time for your members. In general, if your members are US-based, mid-morning (between 10:30-11:30 AM) on a Wednesday or Thursday may be your best bet. With that said, it’s important to consider your members’ various timezones. For example, if you are on the east coast but have a lot of members out west, scheduling it in the early afternoon (~1:00-2:00pm EST) may not be a bad idea.

3.Create Excitement! Even if you have the perfect webinar, people can’t attend if they don’t know about it. Associations that go beyond awareness to create excitement about their webinar realize an increase in webinar attendance. To do so, create a visual and informative landing page that you can use to promote your event via social media and email.

4.Track Your Progress using ClearVantage Association Management Software. Analyzing and pulling stats on your webinar attendance and audience can help you focus your webinars on the most relevant topics for webinars in the future. Some of the most important webinar stats include:

-Webinar Registration Numbers

-Attendance to Registration Ratio

-Attendees at Start vs. Attendees at Finish Ratio
