Design an Engaging Event Banner

Erin Reeve | | July 28, 2017

On average, event attendees spend ~6 seconds looking at a booth before deciding whether or not to engage with an exhibitor1. One way to grab an attendee's attention is to create a stylish, attractive display banner. In this article, we’ll review how you can do just that for your next event!

FOCUS YOUR MESSAGE

BE SIMPLE, CLEAR AND DIRECT

Your message should be simple and design-focused. Instead of being wordy and in-depth, stay focused on the core benefits of your business. Remember, the purpose of a banner is to catch the attention of attendees - not close a deal. In other words, save the in-depth persuasion for the sales team and other marketing materials.

And (as always!) keep your target audience in mind. Depending on the event, some attendees may have a good understanding of similar companies and the services that they provide. Other conferences may be less industry-focused and require you to be more descriptive about who you are and what you do. Regardless, using simple and clear language can engage attendees with your message, while unclear and complex language can deter them from stopping to learn more.

GET TO THE WHY

If you can keep your message simple and communicate your company’s benefits (and not just its features) - you’re golden. Take this further by tailoring these benefits to your target audience (which may be all or only some of the event’s attendees). Since you will most likely be in a room with competitors or similar organizations, try to think of benefits that are cutting-edge, industry-leading or new-to-world. For example, consider how a new product innovation could help your target audience. Turn this into a benefit - and wah-lah! Now that you have your display banner message down, it’s time to start designing!
