This trend tasks marketers with creating mobile-friendly emails that look and read well on any device. In this post, we’ve provided some tips to help you write “mobile first” email copy.

  1. Make sure that your subject line is 30 characters or less. Subject lines over 30 characters are automatically trimmed by many mobile email clients. While some email clients allow for subject lines up to 80 characters, 30 is the safest bet.
  2. Pre-header text can be used to entice your readers to open your email. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the term, Write intriguing pre-header text that is 40 characters or less.pre-header text is the copy that appears under the subject line. Although email clients have different character allowances for pre-header text, your safest bet is to stay within 40 characters (or risk having part of your message cut off).
  3. Use an expected “from name” that’s under 23 characters. Generally speaking, subscribers expect - and want - to see emails from newsletters they have subscribed to. With that said, you’ll want to make sure that your “from name” is easily recognized right off the bat. For example, instead of using your own name, try using your company’s. And, of course, make sure that it is 23 characters or less!

You can set this up in ClearVantage email blast tool by putting a name in quotes, followed by an email address: “Erin Reeve” <ereeve@euclidtechnology.com>.
